Coach de Coach 2 – De mentale kant van coachen
2 november 2016 | Op de laatste dag van oktober werden de jeugdcoaches en -trainers van Pinoké uitgenodigd voor een tweede workshop op de club. Het thema was dit keer ‘de mentale kant van coachen’. Onder leiding van oud-Pinoké’er en coach Femke Lobach werden de aanwezige trainers en coaches uitgedaagd om zelf ook actief mee te doen aan deze interactieve workshop.Afbeelding: Femke Lobach doet met een tennisbal een focus-oefening voor
Maar liefst 18 jeugdcoaches kwamen op de avond af. De jongste alweer 3 jaar actief als vrijwilliger; de oudste al een jaar of 35 bezig voor de club. Dit zorgde voor een leuke mix van jong en oud, van veel ervaring en jong enthousiasme.
Femke gaat bij het coachen van jeugdteams uit van drie basisprincipes. Het eerste uitgangspunt is dat je je als coach realiseert dat een kind zich gedraagt naar hoe het op dat moment goed voor hem of haar is. Een kind vertoont gedrag; maar is niet dat gedrag, een belangrijk verschil. Een ander punt wat je je als coach moet realiseren is dat je als coach ‘voor’ leeft. Jij bent een voorbeeld voor de spelers. Tot slot moet je je als coach ook focussen op de dingen die niet besproken worden; die zijn vaak meer aanwezig dan de dingen die wel gezegd worden. Dus hou daar oren en ogen voor open.
Tijdens de avond kwamen veel praktische vragen en antwoorden aan bod over focussen voor de wedstrijd, ‘moeilijke’ spelers, wat je bespreekt tijdens een teambespreking en het motiveren van een team dat ver achter staat. Femke onderscheidt vier type spelers die allemaal een eigen manier hebben van het spel beleven. Idealiter heb je alle typen in je team zitten. Het eerste type is De loyalist, de speler die altijd op tijd komt, van trainen en structuur houdt en teamgericht is. De idealist is gericht op het teamproces, wil voor een goede sfeer zorgen, wil het samen doen. De vaklui zijn de creatievelingen in het team; zij zijn ongeleid en hebben ruimte nodig. Tot slot de rationalisten; dit zijn de strategen van het elftal; zij zijn in staat te schakelen in het veld en de lijnen uit te zetten. De mix van deze spelers zorgt voor een perfecte balans in je team; maar voor veel (jeugd)teams is dat best lastig, omdat rationalisten zich vaak pas op latere leeftijd ontwikkelen.
Een van de allerbelangrijkste lessen voor een coach is volgens Femke en alle aanwezigen: het benadrukken van het plezier: hockey is leuk en maak het als coach ook leuk in en rond het veld. Ook voor ouders is dat een belangrijke opdracht: geef feedback op positieve punten en benadruk niet altijd de dingen die niet goed gingen. Zo wordt het spelletje nog leuker.
De leerzame avond werd afgesloten met een drankje aan de bar en mooie anekdotes uit elk team.
